Why does Vedic astrology call Jupiter exalted in Cancer? The classical system places its strongest exaltation point at 5° Cancer. Symbolically, Jupiter's wisdom and counsel meet Cancer's concern for care and belonging, a setting in which guidance can be understood through attentive support.

Exaltation is a form of planetary strength. A planet can have this support while still requiring interpretation through its house, aspects and sign ruler. The exact degree is also relevant; the exaltation-strength component varies with distance from the peak.

Advice that remembers the person

Cancer is a water sign ruled by the Moon. Its sign symbolism includes home, family, memory, emotional rootedness and a protective response to what feels familiar. The strength is nurture; the caution is holding too tightly to what once felt safe.

Jupiter signifies wisdom, expansion, teaching, good counsel and dharma, meaning ethical duty or a guiding principle. Its traditional association with children also connects with teaching and guidance. Cancer brings a personal, caring manner to these Jupiter functions.
