Sun in Aries, in one paragraph
Sun carries its kāraka (signification) portfolio — ātma (the soul), vitality, authority, the father, and one's sense of dignity and purpose — into Aries, a fire sign whose grain runs toward initiative, courage, and a direct, pioneering drive. Sun is exalted in Aries — and the texts are degree-precise about Sun's peak: 10° of Aries is the deep-exaltation point (BPHS Ch. 3), the strength tapering either side of it. Exaltation reads as Sun at its most resourceful in Aries — a tailwind for Sun, not a verdict, and no substitute for the rest of a chart. Sun's mirror is worth knowing too: opposite Aries, at 10° of Libra, sits its debilitation.
Sun's nature, and where direction helps it
Classically the Sun is counted a natural malefic (a hot, kingly graha) — read for the strength, visibility, and heat it brings, not automatic ease. And one layer no Aries page can settle: dig bala (BPHS Ch. 27) gives Sun full directional strength in the 10th house — the midheaven, the southern angle — so the same Sun-in-Aries reads differently by the house it lands in, a fact of birth time, not of Aries.

Read Sun in Aries as classical tendency with checkable parts — the dignity and its degrees, Mars's hosting, dig bala — never as a verdict about you. What settles it: the house Sun occupies in your chart, the aspects reaching it, how Mars itself is placed, and whether a Sun daśā (planetary period) is even running. - Is Sun in Aries good?
- Classically Sun-in-Aries counts as a strong dignity (exalted) — a real tailwind for Sun's significations. But "good" is no verdict Aries alone can deliver: the house holding Sun, its aspects, and the daśā timing decide how that strength is spent.
- I have Sun in Aries but don't relate to this — why?
- Because an Aries placement is one layer of many around Sun. The house your Sun occupies, the aspects reaching it, Mars's condition as Aries's dispositor, and whether any Sun daśā has yet run in your life all shape the lived result. An Aries-in-general page sees none of those — your chart does.
- Does an exalted Sun always deliver?
- No — the tradition itself says so about Sun. Exaltation peaks at 10° of Aries precisely, and tapers; an exalted Sun in a difficult house, under hard aspects, or dormant because no Sun daśā runs, can stay quiet. Strength is Sun's capacity, never a promised outcome.
